Team aXxium Interview

At the end of preseason, CAL moved 7 CAL-O teams to Main. I decided to get back to girljeanS to interview him about their moveup!

zT|noSko #caloscrubz interviewing Cal-M moveup Team aXxium

zT|noSko : Allright, here we go. First of all, welcome back girljeans

aXxium|girljeanS : Thanks brah

zT|noSko : Congratulations on your moveup to CAL-Cod2 M.

aXxium|girljeanS : Thanks

zT|noSko : How were your preseason matches?

aXxium|girljeanS : Easy, we actually took the time to strat a slight amount for trainstation.

zT|noSko : (plug for the gayest map ever while we're here).

aXxium|girljeanS : I love trainstation, by far one of my favorite maps. It was honestly one of the best maps to choose from for preseason / move-up chances

zT|noSko : You think that was the sole reason CAL moved you guys up? Was there some behind the scenes blowjob action?

aXxium|girljeanS : You would have to talk to laurent about the blowjobs, I know nothing about them

zT|noSko : lol, seriously though.

aXxium|girljeanS : I was being serious, I would say talk to nzyme about them, but I don't think he is old enough to know what a blowjob is :O

zT|noSko : Because the CAL site is kinda gay and wiped your cal-o records, mind telling us what scores you got in preseason, and against who?

aXxium|girljeanS First match was against. Ballerz I think, we took that one 18-2. Both rounds we lost because of nzyme. I place the sole blame on him, haha.

Trainstation was Absolute Abolishment, I heard alot of hype about that team, so I convinced my team to at least strat a little bit on the map, especially defense, since we were in the run for a main spot, so we stratted a little bit for that one, and they proved to be a little bit better. I was expecting them to be much better then they actually were though, score was 14-6. But we lost alot of rounds by doing really stupid shit

zT|noSko : As a side note, both AA and HBZ are now Cal-Im teams, congratulations to them. Now, one of the things about CAL-M, 2 matches a week, think you're going to be able to deal with that?

aXxium|girljeanS : We will be fine with 2 matches a week, we actually play 3, because of cevo-a. But we are all dedicated enough to be able to be around for matches.

zT|noSko : You actually find times to strat shit?

aXxium|girljeanS : We tend to strat alot in the early afternoon. Shelf and myself are on alot in the early afternoon. I get out of class at noon, and he is almost always on around then. So we go over alot of shit and work on set nades etc. And we run over what we have done that day with Domenic when he gets off work around 5 and he changes little things. But it seems to be working so far.

zT|noSko :Yeah, obviously.

aXxium|girljeanS : We have had alot of time to prepare for matmata and burgundy though, even though burg was pushed way back. We will still use the same strat, more then likely.

When we first started the team though, before maplists were even announced at all we went through map by map for a few weeks scrimming and stratting so we could get a good feel for the teamwork we would need to develop quickly. We have strats for a majority of the maps now

zT|noSko : About the team, did you guys know each other before?

aXxium|girljeanS : I was on a team with nzyme, shelf, and soco before.Shelf joined Mouse-1 last season. At towards the end of it he told me that he would like to start up a team with me. So we took nzyme and soco from Team Who with us. And picked up Laurent early. I heard about Domenic looking for a team, and knew him from cal-im s1 when he was on TFS, so worked on getting him in, which proved to be a great idea. And then laurent found out Jibba from u4 / 5togo and concept was looking, and he is an amazing shotgun, so we picked him up too to shotgun full time. But he quit just 2 days ago. So we might be picking up a good shotgun, or might stick with soco/warpain shottying

zT|noSko: Take note people, looking for a shotty.

aXxium|girljeanS : Haha, I've had many offers, but only one has stood out so far ;)

zT|noSko : Now, your first match, against Shift-Six, how do you feel about playing a team which is well established in cal-im

aXxium|girljeanS : Shift-Six is a great group of guys, we always have fun scrimming against them, I don't think I have ever been able to play against them in a match, though, I heard they are looking very good lately, so I'm really looking forward to tonight

zT|noSko : True that, how bout paradox?

aXxium|girljeanS : Paradox is a very well known team, and I like a majority of them, even though they hate my guts.

zT|noSko : lol, why would that be?

aXxium|girljeanS : Well, I led a pug team in TWL last season, and we were to play them in the finals. I caught them smurfing blue from fivestar into the match, and they got kicked from the league.

zT|noSko : lol, allright

aXxium|girljeanS : They were upset about that.

zT|noSko : Yeah, I imagine, TWL is serious business

aXxium|girljeanS : I noticed, I got my TWL Championship ring :o

zT|noSko : Ok, onto something else, CEVO? You're in CEVO a as I understand.

aXxium|girljeanS : Yeah

zT|noSko : Think you have a chance of winning some moolah?

aXxium|girljeanS : I have alot of faith in the team I put together, and we are only there to win. I can't say that I guarantee anything, but I would love some extra cash in my pocket.

zT|noSko : Yeah, that's always nice, especially when it's for playing COD2. How bout SOTF and lans?

aXxium|girljeanS : SOTF was an amazing tournament when I played in SOTF8. But we had major roster issues going into it, and the rosters locked just before our starting 5th could get in,
so our 6th had to play, and he didnt have any dedication to the team whatsoever. We lost our first match in triple OT, and got blown out the second one with absolutely no preperation at all.
But SOTF9 is something that I look completely forward to, and plan on making a good impact into that with our current lineup.

As for lans we will be attending the next CH, along with the BYOC in Virginia in the summer. And hopefully more Cyberhubs after that, too

zT|noSko : 15k prize money is a sexy thought.

aXxium|girljeanS : Oh definitely, and I know that if we bring our A game, we can compete with many of the top teams in the game

zT|noSko Now, you're with aXxium. Did you go with these guys because of the anti-smoke thing, or is it just added coolness.(check axxiumgaming.com to see what I’m talking about).

aXxium|girljeanS : When we first started the team we were looking to get a good sponsor, We looked through alot of Cal-i 1.6 / Source teams, and Shelf came across axxium, and said that they looked like a good group of guys, so we came up to them and asked if they would be interested in a cod2 team. They eventually agreed, and we are part of that organization now, obviously. I love the message they are trying to portray, and it really isn't so much about anti-smoking as it is pro-truth. Theory wants to get it out there that the tobacco companies use lies and slander to sell their products, and doesn't want that to continue, so he is trying to make an impact through gaming.

zT|noSko : Yeah, it's nice to see gaming organisations with some kind of political/ethical engagement. Anything else you'd like to add?

aXxium|girljeanS : Not really much more to add, just that I am looking forward to the start of a great cal-main season, and a great cevo season also. Hopefully you will see us deep in the playoffs of both!

zT|noSko: Allright, well, thanks a lot for the interview girljeanS, and good luck in CAL-M/CEVO-A/SOTF9.

Team Inverse Interview.

reS|noSko #caloscrubz interviewing Cal-O Team-Inverse

After getting the x6\\Muse and xunit interviews done, I thought I'd spend a bit of time on one of CAL-O's relatively unknown teams, Team-Inverse. These guys are a team of Quebecers, who've been around in one form or another for a while.

reS|noSko :Allright, first of all, welcome guys.

inv`krazzed : sup frenchie :)

inv`monkxz : sup

reS|noSko > Now, a lot of people have never heard of you guys, mind giving us a quick team intro? Who plays what, how long you've been together, etc?

inv`mastER_1337 : For our starting five we have vipes, krazzed, todd, monk and myself. Circa backups. Monk and I were CAL-M CS1.6 during about 2 years. We then stopped playing 1.6 for vcod, which we played together for 2 months. Krazzed, monk, and myself were Cal-I with uC in vcod s5 and s6. Vipes was with me in hftw COD2 s3. And Todd just calls everything.

reS|noSko : Allright, who plays what on the team?

inv`mastER_1337 : I snipe, Monk shotguns, Krazzed bolts or MG’s, Todd MG’s, and Vipes bolts/MGs, but Krazzed likes to pick the scope up during scrims.

reS|noSko : Sounds solid. Who usually ends up dropping the bombs? Krazzed? Todd? You?

inv`mastER_1337 : Well, depends on the map, on short range maps, Monk and Vipes are up top. Long range, Krazzed and myself.

inv`krazzed : As usual, I am always the first.

inv`mastER_1337 :haha

inv`monkxz : lol

inv`mastER_1337 not really =P, nt.

reS|noSko : Cool, you guys have any really "clutch" players?

inv`mastER_1337 : No, but everybody except Vipes, lol.

reS|noSko Guess that works too, lol.

reS|noSko : Now, question for a bilingual team. Do you play in French or English?

inv`mastER_1337 : French =/

reS|noSko : Does Vipes manage to play in French?

inv`mastER_1337 : Vipes speaks French/English and a other language =) so he understands what we say.

reS|noSko : Saw Vipes is on a CTF team, I take it team inverse won't be playing CTF?

inv`mastER_1337 : Hmm yeah, we told Vipes to quit his CTF team, because we’re a lanning team and need to practice a lot.

reS|noSko : Cool, about matches, how was your first preseason match vs serenity?

inv`mastER_1337 :Seriously? Boring =/

reS|noSko : Lol, won though right?

inv`mastER_1337 : Yeah, 14-6

reS|noSko : Now, you told me you’re a lan team, what lans you been to recently? Quebec ones? AACL?

inv`mastER_1337 : We’re going to attend the AACL soon, but we’re a new team, so it will be our first lan.

reS|noSko : How do you think you'll do against teams such as audacity, KTF, and maybe eGe? I mean, these teams have been together a long time, and been cal IM/M

inv`mastER_1337 : I’m pretty sure we're going to tie audacity and KTF. But we are going to try some random strats to beat eGe ;P

reS|noSko : Nice, good luck with that! Would be nice to see some CAL-O teams getting up there.

inv`mastER_1337 : Thank you sir.

reS|noSko: You say you're a lan team, think you might make it to Cyberhub March if cal-o season goes well?

inv`mastER_1337 : “Might” go. Because we need to practice a lot to go to CH.

reS|noSko : Yeah, that's true.

inv`mastER_1337 : And we are too far away from CH =/

reS|noSko : Yeah, you're from Quebec/Montreal right?

inv`mastER_1337 : Yeah and Monk is from Quebec, Quebec/Quebec

reS|noSko : Yeah, right, Quebec City.

inv`monkxz : Yeah

inv`mastER_1337 : Yeah, my bad.

reS|noSko : Will Vipes be attending the AACL with you guys?

inv`mastER_1337 : No, he’s not on, and this is the last day for registration.

reS|noSko : So your 5 will be Krazzed, Todd, Monkxz, Circa, and yourself?

inv`mastER_1337 : Yeah, and this will be Krazzed’s first time on LAN.

reS|noSko : Allright, you got any predictions for your match against fellow quebecers [FATE]? With players such as Goldoche and Se1ko?

inv`mastER_1337 : 14-6 us =)

reS|noSko : Allright, let's hope you can back that up :P.

inv`mastER_1337 : Goldoche isn’t so good, but he’s a great team player.

reS|noSko : Now, couple of questions for Monk. Will you keep shottying if the smoke gets removed?

inv`monkxz : Yeah, I will

reS|noSko : Even on, say, Toujane?

inv`monkxz : Ouff....Don’t think so, probably going to bolt instead.

reS|noSko : Allright. How bout you krazzed, think the removal of smoke is going to help your bolting?

inv`krazzed : Yeah, I think so.

reS|noSko : Aight, though I doubt you need any extra help, seeing as you dropped around 30 against serenity, lol. One last question. It's preseason, and there's a lot of talk about moveups, you guys want to get moved up?

inv`mastER_1337 : Yes, we want to, seeing as Krazzed and I have CAL-M XP in CoD2, a CAL-M moveup would be great =)

reS|noSko : Well, if you tie Audacity at Lan, the CAL-M moveup would be a logical thing for you guys.

inv`mastER_1337 : =)

reS|noSko :Allright, well, thanks a lot Master_1337, Krazzed, Monkxz, and Todd. And slap vipes for being late for me. Anything you guys would like to add? Any shoutouts?

inv`mastER_1337 : I just want to say thx for this lil interview =)

inv`krazzed : lol, I will .. Yes shoutout to my boy jmzblnt love you frenchie <3

reS|noSko : Allright, well, thanks a lot guys, and peace out.

x6\\Muse Interview from CH!

reS|noSko #caloscrubz interviewing x6\\Muse Live from CH

During one of the breaks during day 2 of Cyberhub, I managed to get a hold of CAL-I shotgunner x6\\Muse, and have a little chat with him on IRC.

reS|noSko : Allright, well, let's get this underway. First of all, hey Muse, are you at CH at the moment? Or did you get back home?

x6\\Muse : I'm actually at home right now, i'm traveling back up though, in a little while, to catch the rest of the x6 matches.

reS|noSko : Yeah, good matches from x6 so far at CyberHub.

x6\\Muse : Definately. I was there for support.

reS|noSko : Allright, for the folks at home who don't know you, mind giving us a little presentation?

x6\\Muse : Well, I started out this game with a team called tnb (Take Notes Bitch) back in s2, several of the members of that team are actually in cal-i right now - myself, and jtsnake and tmaxx of iLlicit. That team however died midway through the season, and I finished out that season with a team called kX, which made it to the cal-o finals. I then joined redstar for CEVO, where we made it to playoffs. The next season for cal, I backed up for iLLicit before finishing the season starting with bloodline. It was this offseason that I joined x6 (former mut!ny) as the 6th man. My job's probably the hardest on the team, because I need to understand everyone's role on the team, and fill in accordingly if someone is missing.

reS|noSko : True that, couple of questions about the x6 team, how long has it been together? (excluding you, obviously)

x6\\Muse : The x6 team has been together for almost two years now, with a previous stint in UO. They've gone through several name changes and different rosters...but the same core people have always been present.

reS|noSko :Cool, so I guess they have some nice chemistry?

x6\\Muse : That would be an understatement ^_^. In a game where communication and proper rotation is key, the bond that these guys have forged in time makes it so everyone knows what to watch and rotate accordingly with only a single call.

reS|noSko : Nice, there's been rumors about Nightfall coming back to x6 for this season, any word on that?

x6\\Muse : Personally, I haven't heard nor care for these rumors because they're simply that - rumors. Nightfall is a very good player who is one of the first guys we ask to ring when we need a player, and that's it really.

reS|noSko : Allright. Now, onto the real reason you're here. The lan. How was it?

x6\\Muse : It was a little confusing in the beginning, mainly because Steve "Sasquatch", the coordinator of the tournament was not there. After things got settled down with teams playing and EGLN's coverage, it began to flow a bit smoother. Time restriction aside, the LAN was and is being ran well.

reS|noSko : Yeah, had some nasty delays yesterday, lol. But all the matches got played apparently. How did the pug go?

X6\\Muse : The pug itself was excellent. We held together vs. teams with skilled players. Losing matches 13-11, 15-9, and 14-10 as a pug is not a bad job at all...

reS|noSko : Yeah, 13-11 against Sinister was real nice.
x6\\Muse : I'm mostly proud of the players I was with. They are wrongly placed in cal-main/open and hung tough vs. basically Invite players.

reS|noSko: Is the game on lan very different? And what about the atmosphere?

x6\\Muse : The game online holds no grip on the game at LAN. Everything flows more smoothly and the one thing that everyone seems to complain about (registration) is a non-factor... The fact that people are watching you play, constantly commentating on your performances, playing against people mere feet away - the atmosphere and overall vibe are always on a high.

reS|noSko : That must have been big for a shotgunner right?

x6\\Muse : Oh, definately. It was a bit of a rush hearing the opposing team holler "MUSE IS JUST RUNNING AROUND DOING WHATEVER THE HELL HE WANTS!" It's not often you hear something like that. ^_^

reS|noSko : Allright, how do you think life as a shotty is going to be with the possible removal on smoke? Think shotties will still exist?

x6\\Muse : I think that the shotty will really only become important in close-range maps, such as carentan, dawnville - maps that allow a shotgun to really just control a spot by himself. Maps like toujane pretty much eliminate the shotgun. without the smoke it's really too hard for one to do anything without being spotted by range. Personally, i think it's a bit of a downer to think anyone would purposely glitch like that. Just shows what anyone will do to win. =(

reS|noSko: Well, money's in balance for some people, and hackers will always exist unfortunately. However, you're flexible and a good bolt, so it won't stop you from playin COD2, right?

x6\\Muse : lol, unfortunately. As for my future as a shotgunner, the best players adapt to whatever hand they are dealt, so I will make do. I was a rifleman in vcod, and if need be I will be a rifleman once again. ^_^

reS|noSko : Now, couple of questions from peeps in the channel : first of all, what did you think about the upset win by SL over the x6 squad?

x6\\Muse: Well, I was supporting my teammates throughout their group matches, and I had personally thought that the play of panther and mylo were good morale boosters leading into the toughest match of the day, but there was a general lack of concentration from the part of x6, and i think that came from everyone deciding to save themselves up for the next day, having already qualified. Of course, this is not to take away from the part of Streamline, who got excellent play from Chimpae (scope) and Voodoo (mg).

reS|noSko : Yeah, Voodoo with some excellent kills during that match. Question from onSlaught`cham : "Why are you as gay as you are? being a full time shotty that is."

X6\\Muse : LOL, well, personally I just think that I do my job a little bit differently than everyone else. Whether that constitutes as being "gay" or not, is the person's choice. So long as I get the job done, I really don't mind how I do it. I guess even though my job as a 6th man constitutes my need to be familiar with all weapons, I will always be known as a shotgun first.

reS|noSko : Question from reS|swoLL, did your upgrading your computer improve your perfomance?

x6\\Muse : Despite my rather nonchalant attitude, at times I have made my frustration with my computer known.

reS|noSko : 33 fps is pro eh :P.

x6\\Muse : It can't be too bad though (even with an mx440 vid card), that I should be in cal-invite even without the services of a good computer... but that being said, I think that the new computer just really helped the game flow smoother. That's really the only thing that changed for me. A new computer is handy, but if you know what you're doing, you can succeed even with 30 fps.

reS|noSko : Allright, and one last question, from I honestly don't remember who : Have you always been "good", or did you get to your level of play with practise and hard work?

x6\\Muse : lol, i'm pretty sure people still think i'm a terrible player regardless of whatever it is I have done. ^_^, with that being said... I think that i've always had the potential to play well, but, like in everything else you can only be "great" if you put in the time and effort. Surrounding myself with players who know how to win really helped my progress as well.

reS|noSko :Allright, well thanks a lot for the interview Muse, good luck during this season of CAL-I/CEVO/SOTF9, and good luck to x6 on lan!

x6\\Muse : Thanks a whole lot for taking your time out. i'd like to get in a shoutout to all of x6 and also to jtsnake and tmaxx, who are some of my oldest friends.

X-Unit Interview from CH!

Here is an interview live from CH with X-Unit's Loki. X-Unit is a CAL-O team, with quite the hype surround their quest for a CAL-M moveup. After beating team Skizzors 13-7 in CAL-O preseason 1, and attending Cyberhub (a rare feat for CAL-O teams), I sat down to have a chat with Loki.

reS|noSko #caloscrubz - interviewing xunit from CyberHub!

reS|noSko : Allright, let's get this underway, first of all, hey loki. You got the team nearby?

xu`LoKi`cod24wsvg : Hah, no, Snowy and Jmor are on a bus heading back to canada, Xclusive and Slaz are on there planes back to florida.

reS|noSko: Cool, allright, first of all, quick presentation of team xunit, how long you been together, who plays what, etc.

xu`LoKi`cod24wsvg : Xclusive, Jmor, Snowy, and Slaz have all been together since Soldier of Fortune 2, I joined at the end of season 3 of CAL. Snowy Snipes, Jmor rifles,
Slaz Shottys, and Xclusive and I mg mainly

reS|noSko :Allright, so, how was lan? without considering results.

xu`LoKi`cod24wsvg : It was an interesting experience meeting all the faces I see on the forums and scrim online on a daily basis. What I was trying to figure out was why we were so far behind in scheduling?
Our match was scheduled at 7pm, and we ended up playing it at midnight.

reS|noSko: CH forgot to take into account setup times?

xu`LoKi`cod24wsvg : It wasn't just setup times, several of the computers were crashing, and I think, at one point, the linux box hosting the servers crashed.

reS|noSko: Yeah, saw that one live on EGLN's broadcast, lol.

xu`LoKi`cod24wsvg : I recall Werra having major problems with one of there players being dropped.

reS|noSko : How would you say you did against some really high caliber teams, like sinister and ENE

xu`LoKi`cod24wsvg : ENE, I don't want to boast, but we gave it to them.

reS|noSko : Yeah, 15-9 was nice.

xu`LoKi`cod24wsvg : We gave up too many rounds on american, and if we had kept up our comms, we would've had it.

Sinister had been stratting toujane for awhile, they knew we were going to come prepared, and in my opinion, came prepared 10x greater than us.

We couldn't take B, they held their spots and didn't want to cross the tank for Snowy to pick. If we sat too long, their scope pushed flank and we were pinned.

reS|noSko: I was actually surprised with your score against Sinister, considering they got beat by ENE 16-8.

xu`LoKi`cod24wsvg : I talked to Crafter, and he basically told me that Toujane was one of there best maps. If we worked it together long enough like Sinister did, we would've came out better.

reS|noSko: Allright, one of the main problems with you guys (according to shoutcaster and EGLN idlers), was that you lost 5v2 rounds, by playing them as 5 different 1v1s. Think you guys will fix that up before season?

xu`LoKi`cod24wsvg : Against ENE, our problem was keeping control of the bomb site on american once we had it, on German, making shots was our major problem.

Sinister, I can't say much, I always seemed to be sent to the site that they weren't heading, and by the time i rotated back, a good portion of my team had been picked.
They played outside, on the roofs, they never really pushed in, only until we were weak.

reS|noSko : Yeah, as you have in your sig, you guys do a lot of double peeks, and that seems to cost you rounds.

xu`LoKi`cod24wsvg : Riskk was really referring to Snowy I think, we played them in several scrims, and snowy outsniped Riskk several times. I now sport a death threat from our preseason match

reS|noSko: Haha, nice. How was that, btw? Winning against Team Skizzors 13-7.

xu`LoKi`cod24wsvg : Skizzors had the momentum, but we outplayed them in top police, and kept them from rushing by nading the connector by l turn. We kept them in line with some pretty decent shots too. On russian we exploited the ppsh for the cheap hooker it is.

reS|noSko : Good deal. There's a lot of hype surrounding you guys about your rumored burning desire to get moved up to cal-m. What of it? Think you'll make it?

xu`LoKi`cod24wsvg : I talked to Trey from LCU, we were joking around about the match, but it should be an interesting time, we've had no time so far to strat trainstation (cal-o preseason 2 map) , since we’ve been worrying about CH, and the last time the original guys played it, was season 2. We'll see, I've never seen LCU play, but we'll be ready.

reS|noSko : Yeah, that makes a while. Hopefully you guys will make it, and get moved up. You actually want to get moved up, right?

xu`LoKi`cod24wsvg : As for CAL-M, if we move, we move. We're not really worried about it, we ignore the other teams begging for it on the forums, and we're just going to let skill reflect the judgements.

reS|noSko : Good decision right there. Allright, well, thanks a lot for the interview Loki. Anything you'd like to add/clarify?

xu`LoKi`cod24wsvg : I lick toilets for headsets.

reS|noSko : Yeah, LOL, good headset at least?

xu`LoKi`cod24wsvg : So far so good, thank god for listerine.

reS|noSko : Haha, yeah right. Allright, thanks a lot for the interview man, good luck against LCU! And see later you during the season, hopefully.

No Smoke.

Early on the 11th of January, CAL|Jay posted a rather surprising annoucement concerning the delay of the 2nd week of COD2 season 4 preseason.

Most of the changes had been anticipated or already discussed (such as the limitation of a single scope). However, the community panicked when they found out that smoke was going to be removed from the game.

The reasoning behind this major change is that there exists a very simple glitch that allows players to remove smoke from their screen, while it still exists for others. A video coming from euro cod2 players exposed this glitch, prompting swift action from CAL.

While the forums were in uproar, a fix was being worked on, which was released at 11PM that same day (Thursday). However, it can't stop glitching 100%, and the final version of pam 2.04 might still not include smoke.

During the mayhem, a post from [20ID]Suport asking SOTF admins if they were going to keep smoke was met by the following response.
SOTF would still be removing smoke from their next tournament, SOTF9, currently announced, but without a date.

I decided to interview some members of the COD2 community to find out their opinions on this rather massive change.

I first asked a couple of people about their thoughts on a COD2 without smoke. Most seemed to agree that it would change the game significantly. Some thought it would be a positive change, some were undedicided.

According to [rS]Prank : "I think it allows for more complex strats instead of relying on the smoke, it would force teams to actually think about what they are doing, instead of getting lucky half the time." Cal-Jay prefered to use the phrase "You can't just run around like a headless chicken".

Squill, from 50.Cal would have prefered to have the smoke removed from the start, claiming it's always been glitchy, and that people have always been finding ways to exploit it, first with fx_sort 0, and now with this alt-tab glitch.

Xu^jmor and aXxium|girljeans stressed the fact that map strategies would need a total overhaul, and that we would be seeing a lot of new pushes and nades to make up for the lack of smoke.

Another issue is SOTF annoucing they would be removing smoke, regardless of wether or not CAL elected to keep it. This would mean teams would have to be alternating between CAL-matches with smoke, and SOTF ones without.

I asked Suport from the new [20ID] team what he thought about this, this is what he had to say : "Credible would be the one to make that decision for the team. I would give my input, but eventually yes I would play both."

According to xu^jmor, even if strats would have to be alternated, SOTF would still attract the excedingly high caliber teams it has been attracting as the leading cod2 tournament. Girljeans follows in the same optic : "All the leagues should be synced, but SOTF is an amazing tournament, I trust their decisions 100%."

One of the problems with SOTF's decision is that it seems to be going against the current will to unify COD2 rules in an effort to score a major lan.

However, this doesn't seem to be concerning 50.Squill all that much : "SOTF takes action always, which is why it has always been so successful. They see smoke as a burden towards the game, and are glad it is going to be removed. As a main promoter for cod24wsvg, I talk regularly with euro and cal representatives. Which is why this game has been progressing to get on the same page as a whole. Hopefully, everyone can agree like we have been and reach an agreement all together."

The decision to remove smoke seems to be accepted by most higher-tier players. The only concern is the unification of rules worldwide, which will still happen, with or without smoke. According to Suport, if the universal ruleset doesn't include smoke, euros will be left in a bind. However, as seen in Hackett's article on gotfrag, nothing is decided yet.

Regardless of what happens, the world will keep turning, with the season of CAL shaping up to be a good one with some very nice new custom maps (thanks Ramza and Nationalism), and some packed rosters. Good luck everyone, and happy fragging.
