During one of the breaks during day 2 of Cyberhub, I managed to get a hold of CAL-I shotgunner x6\\Muse, and have a little chat with him on IRC.
reS|noSko : Allright, well, let's get this underway. First of all, hey Muse, are you at CH at the moment? Or did you get back home?
x6\\Muse : I'm actually at home right now, i'm traveling back up though, in a little while, to catch the rest of the x6 matches.
reS|noSko : Yeah, good matches from x6 so far at CyberHub.
x6\\Muse : Definately. I was there for support.
reS|noSko : Allright, for the folks at home who don't know you, mind giving us a little presentation?
x6\\Muse : Well, I started out this game with a team called tnb (Take Notes Bitch) back in s2, several of the members of that team are actually in cal-i right now - myself, and jtsnake and tmaxx of iLlicit. That team however died midway through the season, and I finished out that season with a team called kX, which made it to the cal-o finals. I then joined redstar for CEVO, where we made it to playoffs. The next season for cal, I backed up for iLLicit before finishing the season starting with bloodline. It was this offseason that I joined x6 (former mut!ny) as the 6th man. My job's probably the hardest on the team, because I need to understand everyone's role on the team, and fill in accordingly if someone is missing.
reS|noSko : True that, couple of questions about the x6 team, how long has it been together? (excluding you, obviously)
x6\\Muse : The x6 team has been together for almost two years now, with a previous stint in UO. They've gone through several name changes and different rosters...but the same core people have always been present.
reS|noSko :Cool, so I guess they have some nice chemistry?
x6\\Muse : That would be an understatement ^_^. In a game where communication and proper rotation is key, the bond that these guys have forged in time makes it so everyone knows what to watch and rotate accordingly with only a single call.
reS|noSko : Nice, there's been rumors about Nightfall coming back to x6 for this season, any word on that?
x6\\Muse : Personally, I haven't heard nor care for these rumors because they're simply that - rumors. Nightfall is a very good player who is one of the first guys we ask to ring when we need a player, and that's it really.
reS|noSko : Allright. Now, onto the real reason you're here. The lan. How was it?
x6\\Muse : It was a little confusing in the beginning, mainly because Steve "Sasquatch", the coordinator of the tournament was not there. After things got settled down with teams playing and EGLN's coverage, it began to flow a bit smoother. Time restriction aside, the LAN was and is being ran well.
reS|noSko : Yeah, had some nasty delays yesterday, lol. But all the matches got played apparently. How did the pug go?
X6\\Muse : The pug itself was excellent. We held together vs. teams with skilled players. Losing matches 13-11, 15-9, and 14-10 as a pug is not a bad job at all...
reS|noSko : Yeah, 13-11 against Sinister was real nice.
x6\\Muse : I'm mostly proud of the players I was with. They are wrongly placed in cal-main/open and hung tough vs. basically Invite players.
reS|noSko: Is the game on lan very different? And what about the atmosphere?
x6\\Muse : The game online holds no grip on the game at LAN. Everything flows more smoothly and the one thing that everyone seems to complain about (registration) is a non-factor... The fact that people are watching you play, constantly commentating on your performances, playing against people mere feet away - the atmosphere and overall vibe are always on a high.
reS|noSko : That must have been big for a shotgunner right?
x6\\Muse : Oh, definately. It was a bit of a rush hearing the opposing team holler "MUSE IS JUST RUNNING AROUND DOING WHATEVER THE HELL HE WANTS!" It's not often you hear something like that. ^_^
reS|noSko : Allright, how do you think life as a shotty is going to be with the possible removal on smoke? Think shotties will still exist?
x6\\Muse : I think that the shotty will really only become important in close-range maps, such as carentan, dawnville - maps that allow a shotgun to really just control a spot by himself. Maps like toujane pretty much eliminate the shotgun. without the smoke it's really too hard for one to do anything without being spotted by range. Personally, i think it's a bit of a downer to think anyone would purposely glitch like that. Just shows what anyone will do to win. =(
reS|noSko: Well, money's in balance for some people, and hackers will always exist unfortunately. However, you're flexible and a good bolt, so it won't stop you from playin COD2, right?
x6\\Muse : lol, unfortunately. As for my future as a shotgunner, the best players adapt to whatever hand they are dealt, so I will make do. I was a rifleman in vcod, and if need be I will be a rifleman once again. ^_^
reS|noSko : Now, couple of questions from peeps in the channel : first of all, what did you think about the upset win by SL over the x6 squad?
x6\\Muse: Well, I was supporting my teammates throughout their group matches, and I had personally thought that the play of panther and mylo were good morale boosters leading into the toughest match of the day, but there was a general lack of concentration from the part of x6, and i think that came from everyone deciding to save themselves up for the next day, having already qualified. Of course, this is not to take away from the part of Streamline, who got excellent play from Chimpae (scope) and Voodoo (mg).
reS|noSko : Yeah, Voodoo with some excellent kills during that match. Question from onSlaught`cham : "Why are you as gay as you are? being a full time shotty that is."
X6\\Muse : LOL, well, personally I just think that I do my job a little bit differently than everyone else. Whether that constitutes as being "gay" or not, is the person's choice. So long as I get the job done, I really don't mind how I do it. I guess even though my job as a 6th man constitutes my need to be familiar with all weapons, I will always be known as a shotgun first.
reS|noSko : Question from reS|swoLL, did your upgrading your computer improve your perfomance?
x6\\Muse : Despite my rather nonchalant attitude, at times I have made my frustration with my computer known.
reS|noSko : 33 fps is pro eh :P.
x6\\Muse : It can't be too bad though (even with an mx440 vid card), that I should be in cal-invite even without the services of a good computer... but that being said, I think that the new computer just really helped the game flow smoother. That's really the only thing that changed for me. A new computer is handy, but if you know what you're doing, you can succeed even with 30 fps.
reS|noSko : Allright, and one last question, from I honestly don't remember who : Have you always been "good", or did you get to your level of play with practise and hard work?
x6\\Muse : lol, i'm pretty sure people still think i'm a terrible player regardless of whatever it is I have done. ^_^, with that being said... I think that i've always had the potential to play well, but, like in everything else you can only be "great" if you put in the time and effort. Surrounding myself with players who know how to win really helped my progress as well.
reS|noSko :Allright, well thanks a lot for the interview Muse, good luck during this season of CAL-I/CEVO/SOTF9, and good luck to x6 on lan!
x6\\Muse : Thanks a whole lot for taking your time out. i'd like to get in a shoutout to all of x6 and also to jtsnake and tmaxx, who are some of my oldest friends.
